The Basics

What’s the difference between a car wash and auto detailing?+

A wash removes the dirt you can see on the outside. Detailing goes further, cleaning, repairing and protecting the car inside and out. Think of a wash as brushing your teeth and a detail as a visit to the dentist. Your car needs both, just not as often.

How often should a car be detailed in Summerville?+

Every three to four months for a full detail, with a hand wash every two to three weeks in between. Time one detail for early May, right after pine pollen season ends, and another before the holidays. Cars that park under pines or carry dogs daily may need it a bit more often.

What’s included in a standard detail?+

Our full detail covers a hand wash, clay bar, paint sealant, wheels and tires on the outside, plus vacuuming, carpet and seat shampoo, leather care, steam cleaning and glass on the inside. The complete list is on our full car detail page.

Is detailing worth it on an older car?+

Usually. Older cars often gain the most, because years of grime and dull paint come off in one visit. Detailing won’t repair dents, rust or torn seats, but it can make a ten year old car feel far newer to drive and much easier to sell.

How long does a detail take?+

A hand wash takes about an hour. Interior detailing runs two to four hours, and a full detail takes four to six. Paint correction and ceramic coating can take one to two days. We include a time estimate with every quote.

Do I have to be home while you work?+

No. Leave a spare key or hand one over before work, and we’ll let you know when the car is ready. Many customers are at work or running errands the whole time. You check the car when you’re back, then pay.

Inside the Car

Can you get all the dog hair out?+

Nearly all of it. Rubber brushes and air pull hair out of carpet weave that a vacuum misses. On heavy shedders, a few stubborn hairs deep in fabric seams may stay, and we’ll point them out. A seat cover between visits makes the next cleaning quicker.

Will old stains come out of my seats?+

Most food, drink and mud stains lift with shampoo and hot water extraction. Ink, dye and stains baked in by summer heat may lighten rather than vanish. Send a photo when you ask for a quote, and we’ll tell you what to expect before we begin.

Can smoke smell be removed from a car?+

In most cars, yes. The smell lives in the headliner, carpet, seats and vents, so we clean every one of those surfaces instead of masking it. A heavy smoker’s car can need a second treatment. Air fresheners only hide the problem for a few days.

Do you clean and condition leather seats?+

Yes. Leather gets a gentle, pH balanced cleaner to lift body oils and dirt from the grain, then a conditioner with UV protection. In Lowcountry sun, conditioning every few months helps prevent the cracks that show up on seat bolsters first.

Why does my car smell like mildew?+

Moisture is trapped somewhere. A wet mat, a leaking seal or a clogged AC drain in our humid summers is enough to start mildew. We extract and dry the carpet and check the cabin filter. If the leak keeps going, the source needs a repair shop. Our musty car guide helps you find the source.

Do you clean children’s car seats?+

Yes, following the car seat maker’s cleaning instructions. We vacuum the shell and fabric and wipe hard surfaces, but we never soak or bleach harness straps, since makers warn that can weaken them. Cracker crumbs under the seat get special attention.

Outside and Paint

How do I get pine sap off my car?+

Don’t scrape it. Fresh sap softens with a sap remover or isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber towel left to sit for a minute. Sap that has baked on for weeks may need clay or light polishing. Wash and protect the spot afterward so it doesn’t dull.

When should I wash off lovebugs?+

Within a day or so. Clemson Extension says major lovebug flights come around May and September, about four weeks each, and their remains turn acidic as they bake in the sun. University of Florida experts warn they can etch paint if left for days. Soaking them first makes removal much safer.

What causes swirl marks?+

Dirt dragged across the paint. Brush tunnels, dirty sponges, dry towels and one bucket washing all grind grit into the clear coat in tiny circles. You see them as a spider web around lights at night. Polishing removes them, and a two bucket wash keeps them from coming back.

Can water spots be removed?+

Fresh spots wipe away with a mineral remover. Older spots the sun has etched into the clear coat need polishing, and glass can etch too. The best fix is prevention, so dry the car after every wash and park away from lawn sprinklers.

Is Summerville tap water hard?+

No. Summerville CPW draws from Lake Moultrie, and its water quality report lists total hardness around 23 ppm, which counts as soft. Spots still form because the water carries about 239 ppm of dissolved solids. Drying the car by hand right after rinsing is what prevents them.

When is pollen season in Summerville?+

Pine pollen covers cars from late March through April, according to Clemson’s Home and Garden Information Center. Tree pollen as a whole runs longer, and Live 5 News puts it at about February to May. The Flowertown Festival in Azalea Park usually lands in the yellow weeks, and it ran March 27 to 29 in 2026. Rinse the car weekly until it passes.

What is the sticky film on my car under crepe myrtles?+

It’s honeydew from aphids, and it isn’t sap. Clemson’s Home and Garden Information Center notes that honeydew from crepe myrtle aphids can stick to cars and patio furniture, and that a black sooty mold grows on it. Wash it off while it’s fresh. If you can, park somewhere else from late spring through summer.

Does salt air damage cars in Summerville?+

Not much. Summerville is about 30 miles inland, and salt in the air is strongest close to the shoreline. What reaches cars here is salt carried home from beach parking lots and boat ramps. Rinse the wheels, wheel wells and lower panels within a few days of a trip to Folly Beach or Isle of Palms.

What does a clay bar do?+

It pulls out grime stuck to the paint that washing can’t remove, like rail dust, tiny sap specks and overspray. After claying, paint feels smooth instead of gritty, and wax, sealant or coating bonds much better. Most cars need it once or twice a year.

Can you fix foggy headlights?+

Yes. Yellow, cloudy lenses are oxidized plastic. We wet sand, polish and seal them, which brings back clarity and helps them stay clear longer. It’s a safety fix as much as a looks fix, since cloudy lenses cut how far you can see at night.

Wax and Ceramic Coating

How long does wax last in South Carolina?+

About four to six weeks for most car waxes in our climate. Summerville stays muggy from early May to late October, and that heat, humidity and rain break wax down faster than in cooler states. A synthetic sealant lasts a few months, and a ceramic coating lasts years.

Is ceramic coating better than wax?+

For long term protection, yes. A coating lasts years instead of weeks, handles heat better and makes pollen and bugs easier to wash off. Wax still has fans for its warm glow and low cost. The right pick depends on how long you’ll keep the car.

Can I take a coated car through a car wash?+

Touchless washes are okay in a pinch. Avoid brush tunnels, since they scratch the paint under the coating and wear the coating down. A gentle hand wash every few weeks keeps the coating working the way it should for years.

Does ceramic coating stop rock chips?+

No. A coating helps against very light marring, but it’s far too thin to stop gravel at highway speed. For that, you need paint protection film on the front end. Some owners pair the two for full coverage.

Will my HOA allow mobile detailing?+

Most do, but rules differ in neighborhoods like Nexton, Summers Corner and Carnes Crossroads. Our low water method and runoff mats fit most HOA rules. If yours has specific limits, send them over and we’ll follow them. Our HOA guide explains how to check.

Is it okay to wash my car in my own driveway?+

Most neighborhoods allow it, but the soapy water matters. Clemson’s Carolina Clear program, which the Town of Summerville and Dorchester and Berkeley counties partner with, says to use a commercial car wash or park on the grass so the wash water soaks into the ground. Storm drains here lead to creeks and rivers without treatment.

Do you detail golf carts, boats and RVs?+

Yes. Golf carts, boats on trailers, campers and motorhomes all get cleaned where they sit. Size and condition vary so much that we quote each one from a photo. A boat before a Lake Moultrie weekend is one of our favorite jobs. See golf cart, boat and RV detailing.
